Why I Made This Book

Photography has been part of my life for 20 years. For much of that time, I was chasing light, looking for beauty, drama, the perfect moment. In Kenya, like many before me, I wanted to capture the grandeur and power of wildlife. And I came back with pictures I was proud of.

But when I looked back at my images, it wasn't the spectacle that stayed with me. It was the stillness.

A rhino resting in the grass with an oxpecker on its back. An elephant rubbing against a tree. A one-eyed lion hidden in the grass. These quiet moments pulled me in.

Behind the calm was fragility. Deforestation. Shrinking habitats. Human-wildlife conflict. These moments were real and disappearing. My photography found a deeper meaning. Slowing Down is my way to share these moments before they disappear. An invitation to look closer. And to care more deeply for what's at stake.

Why Now

The stillness in these images is under threat. Since 1990, Kenya has lost forest cover equal to 15 New York Cities. Even today, entire regions, sometimes the size of NYC continue to vanish.

As wild spaces shrink, human-wildlife conflict has quadrupled, forcing animals and people into closer, often dangerous proximity.

These moments of calm - animals resting, living freely - are becoming rare. This book won't solve the crisis. But it is a quiet act of resistance. A way of paying attention.

We protect what we care about. And we care most about what we take the time to truly see.

Partnership with Kenya Wildlife Trust

In making this book, I connected with Kenya Wildlife Trust, a conservation organization in the Mara working to protect big predators and support local communities. Their mission echoes the spirit of this work: paying attention, preserving what matters.

Slowing Down adds its voice to theirs.

A Personal Note

I first went to Kenya as a photographer, drawn by the wild and its beauty. Over time, I realised that I was coming back with more than photographs. I carried something far deeper: a sense of awe, responsibility, and a desire to give back.

Being in the wild, I learned to slow down. To listen. To wait. It changed the way I saw. Not just animals in their natural world, but a kind of freedom that felt pure. And painfully fragile. There were times when I couldn’t bring myself to take pictures. I just watched, humbled.

Later, as I looked through the images, I felt both joy and fear. Joy for what I had seen. Fear that it might vanish one day. Not just in Kenya, but everywhere on this planet.

My first thought was to donate to wildlife conservation. But was that enough? That’s when this idea took shape. I decided to produce a premium coffee table book that would raise money, and create awareness for the fragile existence of these beautiful animals, and the efforts to keep their ecosystem alive.

This book is an invitation to slowing down, to seeing what could be lost. It is a love letter to the wild. A physical experience, a reminder of the beauty in this world and an appeal to protect it.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I would really appreciate it if you signed up and shared this message with your friends.

This book captures not just the sights of Kenya’s landscapes, but the raw emotions of being in the wild. It is a celebration of freedom in the wild, of the animals that inhabit a rich, diverse, and vulnerable land.
